According to a report by Tom VanHaaren, a reporter for ESPN, the father of a Michigan football player who was hit with a helmet in the tunnel following the team’s win over Michigan State, is going to be pressing charges against those involved.

Gemon Green’s father said that he was struck in the face, back, and shoulder by a helmet.

The incident occurred following Michigan’s 29-7 win over Michigan State. In the tunnel, which both teams share at the Big House, an altercation occurred and videos came out that showed several Michigan State players apparently attacking a Michigan player.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh condemned the incident. According to him, two Michigan players were assaulted in the tunnel following the game. He also said one of the Michigan players had a nasal injury.

“Two of our players were assaulted. You saw the one video, the 10 on 1. Pretty bad,” Jim Harbaugh said.

Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker also released a statement following the apparent attack.

“As Spartans our program has a responsibility to uphold the highest level of sportsmanship. While emotions were very high at the conclusion of our rivalry game at Michigan Stadium, there is no excuse for behavior that puts our team or our opponents at risk,” Mel Tucker tweeted.

“In complete cooperation with law enforcement, the Big Ten Conference and MSU and UM leadership, we will evaluate the events in Ann Arbor and take swift and appropriate action.”

To this point, Michigan State has suspended four players involved. Whether or not more players are punished remains to be seen and will be determined over the course of an investigation.

Paul Finebaum on the tunnel altercation

ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum came out and called on Mel Tucker to dismiss every player involved in the altercation from the Michigan State team.

“Yeah, I don’t know why we’re still waiting for a decision here. There’s no way these guys should remain on the football team. I mean it’s simply outrageous behavior. It borders on criminal behavior. Again, I’m just saying what it looks like without knowing everything about it. But I mean I have a lot of respect for Mel Tucker. If he doesn’t kick these guys off the team, then I don’t know how he’s going to be able to face the music,” Paul Finebaum said.

“Again, I don’t know what goes into this. To let them play again this year would be unconscionable. Whether they have a path back — and you’re talking about a lot of players. The culpability might be different for everyone. But I’m just saying, it’s such a bad look. There’s no word salad that you can offer to defend their behavior.”
