Report: Oklahoma adding former Bucks assistant Josh Oppenheimer to coaching staff
Porter Moser has reportedly added a coach from the pros to his coaching staff at Oklahoma.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sooners have hired Josh Oppenheimer as an assistant. He was most recently with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA.
“ESPN Sources: Former Milwaukee Bucks assistant Josh Oppenheimer is joining Porter Moser’s staff at Oklahoma,” Wojnarowski tweeted. “Oppenheimer — who had a close working relationship with Giannis Antetokounmpo — will take on a significant role in player development and offensive strategy.”
Over the past decade, Oppenheimer has had a few different jobs in the association. He was most recently an assistant in Milwaukee while also being with the Bucks earlier in the 2010s. He was also an assistant for a season with the Houston Rockets. Then, in the G-League, he was an assistant for a year with the Long Island Nets.
Milwaukee retained Oppenheimer for this past season after firing Mike Budenholzer and hiring Adrian Griffin. However, after a time following their in-season change from Griffin to Doc Rivers, they dismissed Oppenheimer along with a few other coaches in May to build the new staff.
In a decade’s worth of collegiate stops in the 2000s, Oppenheimer has spent time at Duquesne, Delaware, DePaul, Kent State, and James Madison.
As a college player in the late-80s, Oppenheimer competed for Rhode Island as well as Northern Arizona. He then had his own professional career.

Oppenheimer will now be the fourth assistant at OU. He will be part of the staff alongside Clayton Custer, Armon Gates, and Ryan Humphrey. Paul Jesperson and Brock Morris are on as assistants too while being the directors of player development and personnel respectively.
The Sooners also recently hired another professional name in Ty Terrell to be their strength and conditioning coach in place of Bryce Daub.
Oklahoma releases hilarious conference schedule reveal video
This year will be the first time that Oklahoma takes the court as a member of the conference. Multiple new teams will host them or be coming to Norman and, to celebrate, the Sooners’ social media accounts involved their student body in helping to reveal their schedule.
Questions were asked of students on campus to reveal the team’s opponents, with correct answers resulting in t-shirts. You can watch the full video here.
SEC schedules came out in a release on Tuesday. While opponents and venues were already known, exact dates were set for the matchups.
This week also had reports that Bedlam between Oklahoma against Oklahoma State will take place on December 14th in Oklahoma City.
