Lehigh Acres (Fla.) running back Richard Young is one of the nation’s premier 2023 prospects, and his speed plays a major role in that distinction. Young posted a blazing 10.8 100-meter dash Saturday morning and shared a video of his sprint to Twitter.

The 5-foot-11, 199-pound tailback ranks No. 1 among 2023 running backs and No. 23 overall in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Young holds numerous Power 5 offers, including from the likes of Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia.

Alabama visit on deck

Richard Young will visit Alabama on April 16, his third trip to Tuscaloosa. Young recently visited Georgia in March and has made multiple visits to Ohio State over the past year.

The Crimson Tide currently hold the lead for Young’s commitment according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at a 54.1 percent chance to land the Florida running back. Ohio State and Georgia trail Alabama with 26.6 percent and 16.5 percent chances respectively to receive Young’s commitment.

Richard Young Scouting Summary

On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote the following on Richard Young as a prospect:

Physically-developed running back who emerged as a national name as a high school underclassman. Has a good combination of play speed and power. Has a muscular upper body with room to add mass in his lower half. Uses his leg drive to run through tackles at the second level. Shows well above average speed, which is validated by his track times (around 11.1 seconds in the 100 meters). Productive as a junior, rushing for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns while averaging nine yards per carry. Will need to considerably improve his ball skills as a receiver out of the backfield, as he has a tendency to fight the ball. Most of his best track times came as a high school underclassman. Older for the class, turning 18 years old in the spring of his junior year.
