Mississippi State guard Riley Kugel enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Mississippi State junior guard Riley Kugel has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after one season with the Bulldogs.

Kugel came to Starkville last offseason after two years at Florida, where he played in 65 games averaging 9.5 points per contest. However, he decided to hit the portal looking for a better opportunity and initially committed to Kansas. That pledge fell through though, and he ultimately signed with MSU.

In his one season with the Bulldogs, he averaged 9.3 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 43% from the field in just over 22 minutes per game. He shot a career-best 75 percent from the free-throw line, but saw his efficiency numbers drop significantly once Mississippi State started SEC play.

As a high schooler, Kugel was the No. 71 overall prospect and No. 10 SG in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next school.
