Rising football star among those slain in Oxford High School shooting
Four students had their lives taken in a shooting rampage at Oxford High School in Michigan on Tuesday, including rising football star Tate Myre. Myre was only 16 years old, and reportedly lost his life tragically while attempting to disarm the shooter.

Myre, a junior athlete and honor student, made the varsity football team his freshman year. He played tight end, running back and linebacker for his school. As a rising star in Michigan high school football, Myre had just returned from a recruiting visit to the University of Toledo the weekend before his tragic death.
Myre listed Michigan State, Texas, Notre Dame, USC and Texas A&M among schools that he was interested in, via his player profile.
“We started off the season rough, but we didn’t quit,” Myre said in an interview while reflecting on his team’s 0-3 start to the season. “We started building week by week and here we are. I play tight-end, little bit of running back and linebacker and I make most calls on defense so I have a big role.”
Myre capped off his junior season with an incredible performance to open the playoffs. In the opening game of the playoffs, Myre caught a 22-yard touchdown pass and recorded an interception late in the game to preserve Oxford’s win.

Tulsa expected to fire head coach
“Everything about him from what I’ve heard, and what I saw of him and how he handled himself on the field, he was just a classy young man,” stated his football coach Zach Line. “He was maybe one of the best, if not the best player in our league because he played so hard. He was all over the field. It’s so sad what happened. I know the whole community is hurting.”
Myre passed away from his wounds on his way to the hospital, after an officer who arrived on scene attempted to get him immediate medical attention.
“Tate was a great young man with a bright future and beloved by all. You will be missed, Tate,” his team posted in a tribute to him Tuesday.
The night of the tragedy, an online petition was started to rename the school’s Wildcat Stadium after Myre.
