Rob Dockery, Nate Ament headline top performers at CBG Grassroots Tip-Off
Henrico County, Virginia – The CBG Grassroots Tip-Off always has players, and the 2023 version of the event was no different. The matchups were very competitive, the atmosphere was intense, and there were players who stepped up with the bright lights shining.
Nike-sponsored Team Durant, Adidas-sponsored Team Loaded VA, Team Loaded NC, and New World, along with UAA Next-sponsored DC Premier, headlined the day with some of the best independent programs the Commonwealth of Virginia had to offer.
On3 was courtside taking in the action. Here were the top performers.
Four-star SG Ty Bevins
Admittedly, I did not get but a couple of viewings of Ty Bevins during the school year. He came out at the CBG Grassroots Tip-Off ready to impress.
Bevins has great size with a basketball player’s frame and long arms. You immediately notice the shooting. He has an excellent shooting base, with great balance and a consistent release that is repeatable at each level. He also has excellent feel, which he showed as a secondary ball handler and initiator. New World 3SSB did a good job of setting Bevins up across multiple areas on the floor and letting him make plays. He is a high-level connector piece who can do a lot of things on the floor.
I will be interested to see how his recruitment grows this travel ball season. Bevins is the No. 108 player in the 2024 On3 150.
Four-star SF Rob Dockery – Texas A&M
Rob Dockery has a basketball player’s frame. He walks on the court at 6-foot-6 with broad shoulders and long arms that flow by his side. The takeaway from watching Dockery, a junior at Washington (DC) Jackson-Reed High, is his feel for the game.
Dockery is an excellent passer, seeing the whole floor and delivering on target passes in both the half-court and in transition. He has a nice change of pace, getting into the paint in straight lines. The jump shot needs work; it is currently a slow set shot. But he has a nice feel in the mid-range and can absorb contact getting to the rim.
The consistent production shines for the Texas A&M commitment.
Four-star SF Nate Ament
Nate Ament has a long and fluid frame; there is real upside in his game and skill set. At 6-foot-8, he has wing skills, bringing the ball up the floor under pressure and knocking down threes in the half-court.

ND coach addresses NFL rumors
Ament is a sophomore at Manassas (VA) Colgan High. He is very thin and will need to add weight, but the fluidity is interesting. He has the legit size. In one three-play sequence, Ament grabbed a traffic rebound, waved everyone up the floor, and initiated the offense. In that same play, he caught the ball as it worked back around to him and knocked down a three. Next possession, he pinned a blocked shot on the backboard and then ran the floor and finished above the rim.
He is currently No. 46 in the 2025 On3 75.
Other notes
*You quickly see the upside with 2024 four-star PF Alier Maluk. He has size, mobility, and touch that are unique when packaged together. Maluk is still figuring out who he is as a player and what he is capable of doing best consistently on the floor. It will be interesting to see the growth he has this summer with Team Durant EYBL 16u.
*This was my first viewing of 2025 C Eric Reibe. The 6-foot-11 lefty with the New World 3SSB 16u program finished well around the basket. At the CBG Grassroots Tip Off showed bounce in traffic and patience to get over his right shoulder. A very good first viewing of the Potomac (MD) Bullis School center.
*2025 SG Will Harper did a lot of positive things throughout the day. He has a nice frame at 6-foot-4. He pushed the break with both speed and control. His DC Premier 16u team had a depth of talent across the floor; Harper did a good job of helping things flow.
*2026 PF Kendre Harrison had a huge freshman season at Reidsville (NC) High, where he averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds, leading his team to a state championship appearance. The 6-foot-7 forward is a menace around the basket, chasing every rebound and trying to dunk every ball.
*2024 SG Domonic Stewart plays with a confidence, a toughness on the ball. He has a solid secondary handle as an off-guard. He is a confident scorer, playing off his jump shot, and he gets into the mid-range, knocking down shots off one and two dribbles.
