Alabama was in a no-score game at the top of the fourth inning when Rob Vaughn did his interview with the SEC Network. The announced jinx may have been in effect, though, considering what happened while he was on the broadcast.

Vaughn was in the middle of an answer about SS Justin Lebron during the Tide’s opening round game against Missouri at the SEC Tournament at Hoover. It was at that point that Mateo Serna hit a solo home run to put the Tigers up 1-0 over ‘Bama.

“You try to hold on tight when you get a player like that. I’ve been very fortunate in my career to have a couple of them: Matt Shaw and Kevin Smith and some really elite shortstops that I’ve been fortunate enough to get to coach,” said Vaughn of Lebron. “He’s such an impressive kid. And you guys see it on the field, you see the plays [home run]…just the human he is, the way he goes about his business.

“Oh boy. Sorry about that,” said the broadcast booth as he ball left Hoover Met.

“No, that’s alright. We’re right where we want to be. A little adversity here in the fourth, let’s rock and roll,” Vaughn said. “But Justin Lebron is a superstar.”

However, Alabama wouldn’t be down for long. The Tide would hit consecutive singles, one from Lebron and one from LF Kade Snell, to earn a pair of scores on RBIs to give them a 2-1 lead going into the fifth inning.

Vaughn wasn’t superstitious in forgiving the SEC Network for what happened with the homer his team allowed. That’s especially so after the Tide made up for immediately in taking their first lead as the No. 9 seed facing the No. 16 this morning in the conference tournament.
