Rodney Terry believes the grind of the Big 12 will prove valuable during postseason
The Big 12 has proven to be a gauntlet of a conference this season. With seven teams within range of the No. 1 seed, it makes for a bloodbath night in and night out. However, Texas’ Rodney Terry also believes it will benefit the Big 12’s teams come March Madness.
Terry addressed the Big 12’s competition level during his media availability on Monday. He said it may suck now but, overall, he thinks it will help the league win in the NCAA Tournament because they’ve already been battle tested by one another since the turn of the new year.
“We’ve beaten each other up so much during conference play. Every game is a game that comes down to a possession,” said Terry. “You have to value taking care of the ball, taking care of your bodies with recovery and all that. But I do think it’s gonna serve well for a lot of our teams in postseason play. We’ve been in those types of games. We’ve had to play March basketball since the end of January.”

The conference has three/four obvious contenders right now in Kansas, Texas, Baylor, and Kansas State. Each resides within the Top-25 at the moment and have at least 20 wins with two weeks left in the season. From there, Iowa State and TCU are right there as well as teams who could be problems in the postseason. After that, Oklahoma State and West Virginia are competitive in their own right as two of the last teams currently in on Joe Lunardi’s bubble.
With eight teams projected in right now, the Big 12 is looking to have a successful outing come this postseason. Terry thinks they’ll get exactly that too once they finish beating up on one another by the end of the Big 12 Tournament.
