Ryan Folmar shares Oral Roberts' unique approach to TCU scouting report
Oral Roberts vs. TCU pits two of the hottest teams in college baseball against one another on Friday. As the Golden Eagles prepare to face the Horned Frogs, head coach Ryan Folmar said they’re taking a unique approach to the scouting report.
Once teams get to Omaha, seeding doesn’t matter. TCU coach Kirk Saarloos said something similar this week, as well. But Folmar said he doesn’t want his team getting too caught up in what the other team is going to do and take away from their game.
That’s why he wants ORU to focus on itself more.
“On somebody else? The scouting report for us becomes very simple,” Folmar said. “You get to this time of year, and every team is very talented. Every team is well-coached. Every team is hot at the right time of year. I think the scouting report then goes back to what you do. I think if you get to this point and you try to change your identity or try to change what you do, you’re going to be in trouble in a hurry.
“So instead of focusing on what somebody else does, I think we’re going to focus more on what we do and what we’re about. We understand that the talent level when you get to this point is extreme, and everybody is hot at the right time of year. So it’s going to be more about us. It’s going to be more about what we do. We believe in our team, we believe in our group. We feel like if we play well, we’re going to have an opportunity to go out and win. Our focus really isn’t on anybody else in the field. It’s on us. We’ve got to play well.”

Oral Roberts brings plenty of momentum into the College World Series. The Golden Eagles bounced back in a huge way after blowing an 8-0 lead against Oregon in the Eugene Super Regional. They won back-to-back games over the Ducks to punch their ticket to Omaha for the first time in 45 years.
It’s part of a red-hot stretch for Oral Roberts, which won 21 straight games before that loss to Oregon. However, TCU has also been rolling this year. Something will have to give Friday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field as the CWS gets underway.
First pitch between TCU and Oral Roberts is set for Friday at 2 p.m. ET.
