Saint Peter’s sent out a heartfelt message to their fans and supporters following the legendary Cinderella run they were on coming to an end. The Peacocks made it further than any No. 15 seed in NCAA Tournament history, but were defeated by North Carolina in the Elite Eight on Sunday.

“To everyone who helped share the story of a dude with an ugly mustache and a gritty group of underdogs from Jersey City: thank you for making these past 10 days as special as they were,” tweeted Saint Peter’s. “And to everyone who made this story even remotely possible in the first place: THANK YOU.”

Moreover, the Peacocks captured the eyes of a nation throughout March. First, Saint Peter’s took down No. 2 Kentucky in one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history. Then, their run continued with a victory over No. 7 Murray State. Many believed No. 3 Purdue would end the story, but another chapter was written when the Peacocks sent the Boilermakers home with a loss.

However, a determined North Carolina team was simply too much to handle. The Peacocks couldn’t stop forward Armando Bacot Jr., who ended the night with an ACC single-season record tying double-double.

Still, the message afterwards was one of gratefulness. The Peacocks went further than anyone ever imagined they could, and that’s to be commended.

“We just told each other, just stay together,” stated Ndefo. “What we did was amazing. And this is a brotherhood. Words can’t describe what we did out there. And just to be happy for each other. For us to be the only team to do this, you know, it’s just historical. And we’re blessed for that.”

Finally, the leader of the Peacocks was coach Shaheen Holloway. In his closing statement following the amazing run his team went on, Holloway stated that his team made history.

“A group of guys came in here no one gave a chance to, no one believed in, but the people in our locker room that’s in our program, administration, us, and made history,” stated Holloway. “They shocked the world. You’ve got guys that’s going to be remembered for things that they could tell their kids and grandkids. It’s a story within a story. I’m super proud of these guys. They came in and made history. Point-blank, period. No one has done it. The last team to do it was P.J. Carlesimo’s team.

“Saint Peter’s did it. Period. Saint Peter’s made it to the Elite Eight. Great story. You guys write about it.”
