Sam Pittman knows Arkansas is going to have its hands full with Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart this weekend.

So much so, Pittman compared Dart to Patrick Mahomes. No, not in terms of stature or success, but the skill level and abilities, maybe some that you don’t see, compared to Mahomes.

Pittman’s just glad he doesn’t have to see Dart on the opposite sideline again after this game this coming weekend.

“He’s gotta graduate sometime,” Pittman said. “You got to get out of there. (He’s) just outstanding. The thing that you don’t really realize with him, or maybe you do. But his ability to run, man, he can throw. He’s got Mahomes-like stuff. I’m comparing the magic throws that he makes because he can make them. I mean, you’re going ‘how (did he do that)?’ But where he’s super dangerous as well is that he can run, and he’s very, very competitive. and very, very confident. And he’s the type of guy you want leading your program.”

This season, Dart got off to a blazing start. While he’s cooled off, he has a solid stat line through eight games: 2,695 yards, 15 touchdowns, three interceptions and a 70.6% completion percentage.

Overall, with USC and Ole Miss, Dart has 10,386 yards, 67 touchdowns, 24 interceptions and a 64.9% completion percentage.

Of course, Mahomes had absurd college numbers at Texas Tech. In three seasons, he finished with 11,252 yards, 93 touchdowns, 29 interceptions and a 63.5% completion percentage.

Is Dart a generational star going into the NFL next year? Well, Mahomes was considered a project and is now practically a surefire Hall of Famer.

Dart was never shy about the expectations of this Ole Miss team, which is still in College Football Playoff contention. So safe to say, he expects to win like Mahomes.

But two SEC losses could really hamper their ability to get into the 12-team dance.

“We’re 2 plays away this season from being the No. 1 team in the country,” Dart said after beating Oklahoma, throwing for 311 yards and one touchdown. “I don’t think there’s been a better team on the field (this season). I’m glad we’ve been able to rally and (am) proud of the guys.”
