WATCH: San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher cuts down nets, celebrates with trust fall off ladder

The San Diego State Aztecs defeated Creighton on Sunday, and head coach Brian Dutcher performed a trust fall off the net-cutting ladder. The trip to the Final Four is a special one for the Aztecs, as it’s the first time reaching the Final Four in school history — something on the line for both teams coming into the game.

Dutcher’s celebration with his players made for a memorable moment in more ways than just making school history.

San Diego advances to the Final Four

The final minutes of the game were as tightly contested as a tournament game can be, with both teams battling and trading scores. The Bluejays held a five-point lead at halftime, but their largest lead of the game was only eight points at any point. The Aztecs put together a late rally to wrestle the game back away in the closing minutes and hold on until the very end.

San Diego State threw an errant inbounds pass with a two-point lead that resulted in a Creighton layup, forcing them to take a potential game-winner.

The Aztecs’ final shot of the game was a good look from near the free throw line by Darrion Trammell with the score tied at 56-56. The shot missed its mark, but a foul was called on the potential game-winner after contact to his hip. Trammell only made one of his free throws, but the score proved to be the difference needed to seal the game.

The Aztecs now advance to play Cinderella-team Florida Atlantic in the Final Four — one step away from a championship game appearance. Awaiting them on the other side of the bracket is the winner of Sunday’s other matchup between Miami and Texas, as well as the UConn Huskies who have looked dominant all tournament long.
