San Diego State transfer QB Danny O'Neil signs with Wisconsin
Wisconsin has landed a big-time quarterback out of NCAA Transfer Portal. Former San Diego State QB Danny O’Neil has signed to play with the Badgers, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
O’Neil is going to Wisconsin after spending one season at San Diego State. He was the starting quarterback for the Aztecs this past season, throwing for 2,181 yards and 12 touchdowns, with 6 interceptions.
Danny O’Neil was also the second-leading rusher for San Diego State, finishing the season with 93 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Prior to coming to San Diego State, Danny O’Neil attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a three-year starter.
As a senior in 2023, O’Neil threw for 2,068 yards and 31 touchdowns and rushed for 722 yards. He is now off to Wisconsin where he will look to build off of his strong freshman season and improve the Badgers offense.

The news of former San Diego State QB Danny O’Neil committing to Wisconsin came after former Badgers quarterback Tyler Van Dyke entered the transfer portal recently.

Van Dyke began his career at Miami in 2020, spending four years with the program. He transferred to Wisconsin ahead of the 2024 season. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.
Van Dyke only played in three games this year due to suffering a season-ending injury against Alabama. His career-best season came in 2021, his second with the Hurricanes.
Van Dyke threw for 422 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions and a 63.2% completion percentage this season. Over the course of his career, Van Dyke has 7,891 yards, 55 touchdowns, 23 interceptions and a 63.7% completion percentage.
As a member of the Class of 2020, Van Dyke was a four-star recruit out of Glastonbury (Conn.) Suffield Academy, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 19 quarterback in the class and the No. 263 overall prospect in the class.
