San Jose State freshman Camdan McWright killed after traffic accident involving school bus
Camdan McWright, a freshman running back at San Jose State, was killed in a collision with a school bus while riding an electric scooter on Friday morning, according to multiple reports. He was 18.
The incident occurred about two blocks from the main campus of SJSU, according to ABC7. The bus apparently had the right of way when McWright crashed into it, police said according to the report.
In a statement put out by San Jose State on Friday, head football coach Brent Brennan mourned the loss of McWright.
“We lost an amazing young man tragically this morning,” Brennan said in the release. “Camdan had a bright future ahead of him and everyone in this community that had the opportunity to spend time with him knew that. We are still trying to deal with the news of this tragedy, and appreciate everyone’s support during these difficult times. Our thoughts and prayers are with the McWright family and I want them to know we are all here for them. Camdan will always be in our hearts and he will be profoundly missed.”
McWright had appeared in one game for the Spartans, rushing three times for six yards.
No one on the school bus was hurt, according to a report
There were 14 high school-age kids on the bus, according to KRON4 in San Francisco, along with the driver, and no one was injured.

KRON4 reported that “Units with the San Jose Police Department and the California Highway Patrol are on the scene of the crash which occurred at South 10th and Reed streets in San Jose, near San Jose State University.”
Reporter Will Tran reported from on-site that McWright died at the scene of the accident.
Further, the California Highway Patrol is going to be handling the investigation, according to that report.
The station also got an early indication from the CHP that the light had been green for the school bus and it did have the right of way at the time of the collision.
“It does appear that the school bus had a green light,” CHP officer Ross Lee said, according to the report.
