Kentucky announces major change to Saturday's game vs. Ohio State
Saturday’s CBS Sports Classic matchup between Kentucky and Ohio State has been called off due to COVID-19 issues within the Buckeyes’ program. Kentucky tweeted the announcement on Thursday afternoon.
“Our game vs. Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic Saturday has been cancelled due to positive COVID-19 results within the OSU program,” Kentucky tweeted. “CBS Sports Classic is working with UK to find a possible replacement game.”
Kentucky said that the team is still scheduled to travel to Las Vegas, the site of the CBS Sports Classic. The Wildcats are hoping to find a replacement game.
Saturday’s game between Kentucky and Ohio State would have been a good one. Kentucky is 7-2 to begin the season, while Ohio State is 8-2. The Buckeyes have picked up wins over three ranked teams already: Seton Hall, Duke, and Wisconsin. Ohio State is currently ranked No. 15, while Kentucky sits at No. 21.

Ohio State vs. Kentucky is the latest game to be impacted by COVID-19
COVID-19 has had major impacts across college and professional sports over recent days. The NFL and NHL are dealing with widespread outbreaks, and multiple postponements have taken place recently in college basketball.
Earlier on Thursday, it was announced that Penn State’s game at VCU scheduled for Saturday was being cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Nittany Lions’ program. UCLA has also had multiple games called off. The Bruins’ game against Alabama State was called off and UCLA also picked up a forfeit victory after Washington was forced to cancel on Dec. 5.
With Penn State and now Ohio State dealing with COVID-19 issues, the Big Ten is in a tough position. Big Ten play is set to get underway over the next few weeks, so hopefully the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are able to get their situations under control and avoid any further cancellations. Ohio State is scheduled to take on UT Martin on Dec. 21 before getting a week off.
Next up on Kentucky’s schedule excluding Saturday is a game against Louisville on Dec. 22.
