USC heads into a golden opportunity this weekend to make a statement in their first conference game as members of the Big Ten. The Trojans do so against the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines at The Big House in Ann Arbor.

USC looked excellent in their first two matchups of the season. Now, the Trojans come off of a bye week with a well rested squad and the No. 11 ranked team in the country. But Scott Schrader from WeAreSC recently revealed what he believes is the biggest key to the Trojans securing a statement win in Michigan Stadium.

“I think it’s going to come down to just not making a lot of mistakes, not shooting themselves in the foot, not turning the ball over,” Schrader said at the On3 Roundtable. “Which USC has not done really this season, haven’t had really too many issues in the penalty or the turnover department.”

USC tied or won the turnover battle in each of their first two games of the season, playing a disciplined brand of football that could take them a long way if they can maintain their recent play throughout the whole season. That’ll be especially essential in their biggest road test of the season so far.

“So you’re going into a hostile environment. Michigan playing in Ann Arbor is going to be a difficult game to win, no matter how good Michigan is. Texas went in there and took care of business and that is an extremely strong football program from top to bottom there in Austin,” Schrader explained.

The Longhorns may have given the Trojans the blueprint to securing a road win against Michigan, defeating the Wolverines in dominant fashion 31-12 two weekends ago. Highlighted by an explosive passing attack that Lincoln Riley and Miller Moss could very well replicate this Saturday.

“So I think USC’s just going to have to go out and play a clean game, and if they’re able to do that, they’re a really good offensive football team. And they have got a lot of really good receivers and I think it’s just going to come down to mistake free (football) and being able to let the running backs gain their yards,” Schrader concluded.

With Michigan’s recent struggles, playing a clean brand of football alone could be just enough for USC to secure its first Big Ten Conference victory in program history. The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET in an exciting matchup airing on CBS and streaming on Fubo.
