A decision could be coming for West Virginia transfer Sean McNeil.

McNeil told CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein he narrowed down his list of schools to six. Ohio State, Virginia, Louisville, Cincinnati, Indiana and Texas Tech are all in the running for the former Mountaineers guard.

McNeil, who’ll have one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer, garnered plenty of high-major interest on the recruiting trail. On3’s Jamie Shaw reported plenty of other big names in on him shortly after he entered the transfer portal, including Clemson, Oklahoma State and TCU. Now, the list is down to six.

McNeil started the last two years for West Virginia and put up some good minutes for Bob Huggins. This past year, he averaged 12.2 points and 2.5 rebounds in 33.6 minutes per game in 32 games for the Mountaineers. He also shot 41.4% from the floor, including 36.8% from three-point territory. He entered the portal March 28.

West Virginia had a rough go in 2021-22, going 16-17 overall and 4-14 in Big 12 action. The Mountaineers missed out on the postseason for the first time since 2012-13. Of course, the NCAA canceled postseason tournaments in 2019-20, but West Virginia had a chance of making it to the NCAA Tournament that year.

“I chose WVU because of the style of play and the culture that Huggs (Bob Huggins) has up there,” Stevenson told On3’s Joe Tipton. “I feel like that’s the best fit for me for my last year of eligibility. Playing for a Hall of Fame coach is something special as well. Also, I have family up in that area. Playing in the Big-12 is going to be a challenge every night that I look forward too.”

He entered the transfer portal last month and chose the Mountaineers over interest from ArkansasAuburn, and Creighton. This past season for the Gamecocks, Stevenson averaged 11.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, while shooting 36.9 percent from the field.

Coming out of high school, he was rated as the No. 38 shooting guard in America and a three-star prospect, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2018 class.
