Sebastian Rancik is one of 2024’s break-out players on the west coast. The 6-foot-9 forward out of San Juan Capistrano (CA) JSerra Catholic averaged 17.0 points in his four games at last week’s Holiday Classic in San Diego.

“I’m someone who can bring whatever the team needs; I can do anything on the court,” Rancik told On3. “I can do things as the one through five on offense and defense. I think my strong aspect of the game is my passing and my shot.

The Slovakian native’s dad, Martin Rancik started 71 games in his career at Iowa State and averaged 13.2 points in his senior season. In the European u18 Championships this summer, Rancik averaged 14.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

On3 spoke with Sebastian Rancik after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

“I haven’t taken any official visits yet,” Rancik said. “I’m taking my recruitment slowly. I’m locking in on my training, getting better, and helping my team win as many games as we can. The rest will take care of itself. I would say I hear the most from Colorado right now. I hear a lot from Ole Miss and Nebraska.”

Colorado: “We talk a lot about player development and how they approach that. We talk about what they’re all about at Colorado, how they want to play and how they look to play me. Coach (Tad) Boyle and their staff have done a great job of introducing me to their culture, and it’s been a really fun process so far.”

Nebraska: “They are my most recent offer, and I haven’t been able to talk much with Coach (Fred) Hoiberg yet. So far, they’ve been introducing me to their culture and their program.

Ole Miss: “I’ve been getting to know the staff as best as I can in the process. They’ve talked with me about how they play and how Coach (Kermit Davis) sees me in their system.”

In Rancik’s words

“This whole process is all new to me,” Rancik said. “I grew up in Europe and grew up a fan of European teams, not colleges. So I’m learning everything and becoming familiar with everything and gaining experience along the way.”

“My dad has always wanted me to have my own vision of the whole process; there has never been any pressure from him in any way. I feel like I can adapt to a lot of different play styles, so I want to have a good relationship with the coach and the whole staff. Their player development will be important, and I’m going to look at the culture around the program.”
