Texas A&M leads Tennessee 3-0 in Top 9th as SEC Baseball Tournament enters first weather delay
The SEC Tournament got underway this morning from Hoover Met. Stadium in Alabama with 12 teams set to participate over the next two days. However, everyone involved will have to be patient considering the latest weather circumstances in the area.
The SEC has announced that the tournament has now been delayed due to weather. More updates will come as the weather develops over the next little bit.
No. 6 South Carolina got things going this morning with a 9-0 shutout over No. 11 Georgia. James Hicks and Cade Austin delivered for the Gamecocks with a pair of great outings to stifle the Bulldog offense. Their offense slowly built their lead off of that before a triple with the bases-loaded from Will Tippett sealed it for the sixth seed.
No. 10 Texas A&M was also doing a number on No. 7 Tennessee in the second matchup before the delay. The Aggies led 3-0 at the top of the ninth thanks to some very solid pitching from their lineup.
Games between No. 9 Alabama and No. 8 Kentucky as well as No. 12 Missouri and No. 5 Auburn are also scheduled to follow this evening.
The rain is expected to continue over the next several hours with a greater than 35% chance of precipitation from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.. It then drops to below 25% for the rest of the afternoon and evening at 5 p.m. according to the latest forecast from The Weather Channel.
These teams have waited all season long to get to some postseason baseball. It just now seems as though some will be waiting at least a few more hours, though, until things clear up around the complex and on the field.

Schlossnagle praises Texas A&M’s pitching amid Troy Wansing shutout vs. Tennessee
Jim Schlossnagle is having a solid start to his morning with No. 10 Texas A&M up 2-0 early against No. 7 Tennessee. The biggest part of that has been the Aggie’s pitching as it’s been something he thinks they’ve found a lot of success with early in Hoover.
Schlossnagle spoke with the SEC Network broadcast about his team’s performance, specifically that of Wansing, so far. He said they’re very obviously starting to find a groove in large part due to the pitching to start over the last few weeks which, as of now, is culminating with Wansing.
“We really are (starting to get things looking right). Brett (Minnich) being back? It stinks to not have him in the field. But he had a big weekend, a big hit for, a grand slam, the other day against Mississippi State,” said Schlossnagle. “But the brightest spot, knock on wood, is our starting pitching. (Nathan) Dettmer, (Justin) Lamkin, and Will Johnson were all really, really good this past weekend. And Troy, so far, has been pretty good.”
To this point, Wansing has three strikeouts against the Volunteers. The sophomore is doing what he needs to for the Aggies at the moment and, as long as Tennessee keeps swinging, Schlossnagle is happy to let him go to work and do his thing.
“He’s got the big breaking ball. It’s just a matter of throwing enough strikes with his fastball,” Schlossnagle said. “They’re swinging so (we’ll) see if we can keep it going.”
