SEC names Football Players of the Week after Week 14

The SEC has named their Football Players of the Week following the action that took place this past weekend in Week 14.

Of course, Week 14 doubles as rivalry week and the final week of the regular season, and there were a ton of fascinating results, as well as tempers flaring throughout college football. The performances of there honorees helped strengthen resumes for the College Football Playoff as well, among other benefits.

With that in mind, here’s who the conference chose to honor following Week 14, for their performance and importance to the result their team enjoyed this past weekend.

First, LaNorris Sellers led South Carolina to a massive win over Clemson, rushing 16 times for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Elsewhere, Quintrevion Wisner also received honors on the offensive side of the football, rushing for a career-high 186 yards on 33 carries (5.6 ypc) and added two catches for 21 yards to total 207 yards in helping lead Texas to a 17-7 road victory in the renewal of its rivalry against No. 20 Texas A&M.

On the defensive side, Whit Weeks was chosen, as the LSU defender tallied 17 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, including a sack for a 6-yard loss in the win over Oklahoma. Additionally, he shared the award with Vernon Broughton of Texas, who set career single-game highs of two sacks, two tackles for loss and two QB hurries, along with making a critical fourth-quarter fumble recovery in helping lead Texas to a win.

Finally, Nico Iamaleava and Dominick McKinley were honored as the Freshman of the Week for their performances. The Tennessee quarterback accounted for 299 yards of total offense and four touchdowns to lift Tennessee to 10 victories with a 36-23 win at Vanderbilt, while the LSU defensive lineman had career-highs of 4 tackles and 2 sacks in helping LSU to a 37-17 win over Oklahoma.
