SEC names Football Players of the Week after Week 7
The SEC has revealed its Players of the Week following a wild Week 7 of action. There were several intriguing games over the weekend, including LSU outlasting Ole Miss in overtime and Tennessee surviving against Florida.
Speaking of LSU, Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was honored by the SEC on Saturday as he has been named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week.
LSU also had the SEC co-Defensive Player of the Week in linebacker Whit Weeks. Here’s the full list of players honored by the SEC after Week 7:
Offensive — QB Garrett Nussmeier, LSU
Defensive — LB Whit Weeks, LSU & LB Anthony Hill Jr., Texas
Special Teams — K Brock Taylor, Vanderbilt
Offensive Line — OT Kelvin Banks Jr., Texas
Defensive Line — DE James Pearce Jr., Tennessee & DE Bradyn Swinson, LSU
Freshman — QB Michael Van Buren, Mississippi State & DB Boo Carter, Tennessee
Garrett Nussmeier earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading LSU to an overtime win over Ole Miss. The junior threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.
Defensive Player of the Week honors went to LSU linebacker Whit Weeks and Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. Weeks had a career-high 18 tackles against the Rebels, including 2 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Hill had 11 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks for Texas in its first ever SEC win over Oklahoma.

Vanderbilt kicker Brock Taylor earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after drilling field goals of 49 and 50 yards.
Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after helping the Longhorns offense put up 406 total yards against the Sooners. The left tackle did not allow a sack or a pressure.
There were a pair of Defensive Linemen of the Week in Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr. and LSU’s Bradyn Swinson. Pearce recorded 7 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 0.5 sacks and forced a fumble vs. Florida. Swinson came up big with 8 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.
Finally, there were also two SEC Freshmen of the Week. Mississippi State’s Michael Van Buren earned co-honors after throwing for 306 yards and three touchdowns against Georgia. Boo Carter was also honored after recording 7 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack against the Gators.
