The SEC has named its 2022-23 Roy F. Kramer SEC Male and Female Athlete of the Year, and after wrapping up the college athletics season against each other at the College World Series, it’s little surprise to see Florida and LSU once again at the forefront.

Florida gymnast Trinity Thomas was named the female winner, while LSU baseball star Dylan Crews was named the male winner.

Both had tremendous seasons, ones that ended in the thick of the competition for an NCAA title. Crews, of course, actually won an NCAA title, as the Tigers dusted the Gators in the final game of a three-game championship series at the end of June.

Man, it’s such a great feeling,” Crews said. “I feel like almost every box was checked off except that national championship box. And we all knew this was going to be our last game here. And to finally say that I’m a national champion, it’s the greatest feeling in the world. And I feel all boxes are checked off now. So it’s good.”

Crews will certainly get to check off another box shortly, as a top MLB Draft pick.

He was an absolute powerhouse for the Tigers this season, leading the SEC in batting average (.426), on-base percentage (.567), runs (100), hits (110) and walks (71). He increased his streak of reaching base to 75 straight games.

He led the nation in runs and walks and was No. 2 in on-base percentage and No. 3 in batting average, en route to being named the 2022-23 SEC Male Athlete of the Year.

Thomas, meanwhile, came up just short of a national title following a tremendous performance by Oklahoma in the finals. An injury limited her late in the season, but it didn’t stop her from setting some records.

She led the nation in perfect 10.0s for the third straight season, recording eight in 2023. She finished tied for the NCAA record in career 10.0s, with 28 total.

And though her collegiate career as a gymnast is over, the 2022-23 SEC Female Athlete of the Year will be sticking around the Florida gymnastics program. She announced recently that she will be a student assistant coach for the team.

“I am so excited that I am staying at Florida for another year,” Thomas said at the Collegiate Women Sports Awards. “I will be pursuing another Master’s, this time in entrepreneurship, and I will be student coaching for the Gators gymnastics team.”
