It was an action-packed week of baseball inside the SEC, with some history being made along the way. Following all of last week’s action, the SEC has named its baseball Players of the Week after some star-studded performances.

The weekend saw a combined no-hitter from Vanderbilt, as well as the first weekend series sweep of the Florida Gators in Gainesville in 16 years, coming courtesy of the Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteers are now 37-3 on the season overall, sitting comfortably in the top spot in the latest D1Baseball Top 25 rankings.

Here is a full look at the SEC’s Players of the Weeks from the past week.

Pitcher of the Week: Vanderbilt starter Chris McElvain

Throwing a no-hitter is very rare in college baseball, but Vanderbilt did just that on Friday against Kentucky. Chris McElvain started on the mound for the Commodores, throwing seven innings with nine strikeouts. Vanderbilt reliever Christian Little came in to throw the final two innings, completing the combined no-hitter, which was the first combined no-hitter at Vanderbilt since May of 2003.

McElvain is currently 5-2 on the season with a 3.52 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched. In his ten starts, he has struck out 67 batters while allowing 23 walks.

Freshman of the Week: Tennessee infielder Christian Moore

Moore had a big week for Tennessee, tallying a hit in three of the Volunteers’ four games on the week with three walks and six RBI. Two of his hits came at very important times on Sunday against Florida. First, he hit a two-run single in the ninth inning to send Friday’s series opener to extra innings. Then, in extras, Moore smacked the winning two-run home run, sending the Volunteers to the win column to open the weekend.

Moore is hitting .342 on the year with nine home runs and 27 RBI.
