SEC Power Rankings updated after Week 9 of college football

The latest SEC Power Rankings from On3, utilizing the On3 Massey Ratings, are in after Week 9 of the college football regular season.
The On3 Massey Ratings – which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated high school sports team rankings since 1995 – rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
So without further ado, let’s examine this week’s edition following Week 9.
1. Georgia
Georgia had a week off but despite not playing a game, the Bulldogs stayed atop the SEC power rankings. The Bulldogs could very well be the favorite to win the conference at this point.
Coming up next is the World’s Biggest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The Bulldogs are heavily favored but don’t rule anything out. They’ll have to take care of business before ranked matchups against Ole Miss and Tennessee the two weeks after that.
2. Texas

Texas survived Vanderbilt and won 27-24, avoiding an upset at the hands of the pesky Commodores. It could’ve been better, but a win is a win.
Quinn Ewers threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns, but threw two interceptions. Texas’ defense basically canceled it out by picking off Diego Pavia twice. This team is still near or at the top of the SEC, depending upon who you ask.
3. Alabama
Domination from Alabama! You love to see it, if you’re a Crimson Tide fan. As of now, this is still one of the best teams in the SEC.
That’s despite losing head to head to Tennessee, who’s a spot below them. But everything went right in a 34-0 win over Missouri to get back on track.
4. Tennessee
Tennessee is another top team in the SEC that had a week off following a win over Alabama. No movement in the rankings this week though.
Coming up next is Kentucky at home, followed by Mississippi State. Two wins here and you set up an epic showdown at Georgia on November 16th that could determine their SEC and College Football Playoff fate.
5. Texas A&M (+1)

What a win for Texas A&M! The Aggies beat LSU to move up a spot in the SEC and are suddenly a conference contender, not to mention in the playoff hunt.
Conner Weigman couldn’t get it going and Marcel Reed led a scoring bonanza, mostly with his legs, in the second half. Mike Elko’s squad is now on a seven-game winning streak.
6. LSU (-1)
LSU held a 17-7 halftime lead and all of a sudden, it was gone. Like Texas A&M, the Tigers had a six-game winning streak coming in but fell flat in the second half.
Looks like Brian Kelly and crew fell victim to a tough place in the SEC and the 12th man ran rampant in the second half. LSU had no answers for Marcel Reed in the latter stages.

7. Ole Miss
Ole Miss played a closer game against new SEC foe Oklahoma than most anticipated. The 26-14 win is, okay? We guess?
Jaxson Dart played solid, going for 311 yards and a touchdown. The run game was quiet though, with Henry Parrish running for just 44 yards and a touchdown. Oh well, they’re 6-2.
8. South Carolina (+1)

The Gamecocks were able to move up in the SEC without even playing a game! Following a dominating win over Oklahoma prior to the bye week, South Carolina had two weeks to prepare for Texas A&M.
So the Aggies come to town this weekend. This is prime for an upset special right? Texas A&M is riding high and SC is just going about their business. We shall see in primetime!
9. Missouri (-1)
Missouri lost Brady Cook to injury and Drew Pyne came in, throwing three picks. A shutout loss to Alabama dropped Mizzou down a spot.
The Tigers are still ranked in the top 25 and should be favored in their remaining games, with a chance to go 10-2. But, there are a lot of questions following a dismal performance.
10. Oklahoma
Jackson Arnold was back in at QB and looked good for the Sooners, throwing for 182 yards and two touchdowns. However, OU didn’t move in the SEC rankings following a loss to Ole Miss.
Sitting at 4-4, the Sooners seem to be in no man’s land right now. Out of conference Maine comes to town this weekend before games against Missouri, Alabama and LSU. Good luck.
