SEC reveals 2025 conference football schedule with staggered kickoff times
The SEC announced the 2025 conference slate of football games this week, keeping the league at an eight-game conference schedule for that year. It was previously reported that the league would consider moving to a nine-game conference schedule in 2025 and beyond.
While sticking at eight games, the league did announce a slight change to the timing of kickoffs on games broadcast on SEC Network, which will go in to effect this upcoming season in 2024. Those games will be eligible to be flexed back up to 45 minutes in order to create staggered kickoffs.
For instance, a game on SEC Network that would otherwise start at noon EST can now start at 12:45 p.m. EST.
247Sports first reported the news involving the SEC football scheduling. The Athletic’s Seth Emerson reported shortly after that the 2025 schedule would just be the 2024 schedule, but with the home and away designations flipped.
And by pushing the SEC Network slate of games back by 45 minutes, the league is hoping to create staggered finishes with league games that are being broadcast on the ESPN channels or ABC. In addition, the league and ESPN can flex a limited number of ESPN/ABC broadcasts per team per season.
The 2024 season will be the first year of the new, 16-team SEC that features Texas and Oklahoma. Those additions were one of the main reasons it was suspected the SEC might eventually move to a nine-game conference schedule, a move that has yet to come.
