The SEC will release the entire 2024 schedule on Wednesday night but gave people a sneak peek during halftime of Monday Night Football’s doubleheader. Two high-level matchups were officially given dates, with Texas and Oklahoma instantly competing against two of the conference’s best programs. These are the types of games you circle on your calendar months in advance.

On Oct. 19, Texas will play host to Georgia in Austin in what should be one of the Longhorns’ first home games in the SEC. It’s an exciting rematch of the 2018 Sugar Bowl but both programs look a bit different six years later. Steve Sarkisian is running the show on the 40 Acres, while Kirby Smart has added a couple of national championships to his resume.

Both Georgia and Texas are going to have a ton of preseason hype entering the season. If results shake out the right way, we could have a ranked matchup on our hands. And who knows, maybe it could wind up being an important game in deciding who makes the SEC Championship in Atlanta.

Over a month later, Oklahoma will have its premier home game of the season with Alabama coming to Norman on Nov. 23. Two blue-blood programs meeting up is a special occurrence but these two now being conference foes makes the occasion even bigger.

This week has traditionally been when Alabama has a buy-in game with the Iron Bowl taking place the week prior. Instead, Nick Saban will take his team to face off against Brent Venables — someone looking to make a statement in his third season.

In less than 48 hours, we will have the entire schedule in our hands. ESPN and SEC Network will release the entire slate in what is a new era for the conference. Not only due to realignment but also with ESPN becoming the SEC’s broadcasting partner.

No longer will we have the SEC on CBS. ESPN is taking over and will have the difficult task of determining which games go in which timeslot. The traditional 3:30 p.m. kickoff time will still be utilized but primetime matchups could become a lot more frequent.

The two announced games — Georgia at Texas and Alabama at Oklahoma — are a great example. Both will draw massive television numbers and should provide a great on-field product. It’s what the SEC was hoping for when bringing the two brands into the conference.
