SEC takes NFL victory lap with billboard outside of Caesars Superdome ahead of Super Bowl
With the Super Bowl set to kick off in New Orleans on Sunday, the SEC purchased a billboard to tout its success in the NFL. Pictured just outside of the Caesars Superdome, a sign stood tall proclaiming the leauge as the NCAA conference with the most NFL players.
The SEC is known for producing superior talent, and as far as Super Bowl LIX goes, the league has 33 former players competing. That includes none other then quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is making his second appearance in the Super Bowl after also making it two seasons ago.
Hurts played his first three seasons at Alabama before transferring to Oklahoma for his final year. So one could say he played in both the old and new SEC, even if the Sooners were still a Big 12 school during his time there.
Kansas City has won the past two Super Bowls and is looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three in a row. But if Hurts and the Eagles are somehow able to pull the win off, it will also be a victory for the SEC in the process.
As of the start of the NFL season, a total of 439 SEC players were on NFL rosters, according to the league. The Super Bowl is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Superdome in New Orleans.
Hollywood Brown reacts to Oklahoma having the most former players in Super Bowl LIX
When the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles kick off in the Super Bowl on Sunday, Oklahoma will hold the distinction of having the most former players in the game. A combined eight Sooners (six on Kansas City, two on Philadelphia) will represent the school when Super Bowl LIX kicks off.
One of those players is Chiefs receiver Hollywood Brown, who was on the team at OU for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. While at the opening press conferences for the Super Bowl, Brown was asked his thoughts on Oklahoma being the most-represented university for one of the biggest games in American sports.

“Boomer Sooner, baby,” Brown said. “It shows that we can produce and we’re used to playing high level football out there in Oklahoma. I didn’t even know there was that many of us. That’s a blessing.”
Brown is making his first appearance in the Super Bowl after signing with the back-to-back winning Chiefs this offseason. He suffered a shoulder injury in the preseason that kept him out until Week 16, when he returned to the field against the Houston Texans.
The receiver caught nine passes for 91 yards across two regular season games before resting in Week 18. After being held without a catch in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, he caught three-of-five targets for 35 yards in the AFC Championship win against Buffalo.
Brown is one of six former Sooners on the Chiefs, joining center Creed Humphrey, running back Samaje Perine, OL Wanya Morris, OL McKade Mettauer and long snapper James Winchester.
On the Philadelphia side, quarterback Jalen Hurts leads the Eagles to the Super Bowl for the second time, having lost to the Chiefs two years ago. He played the final season of his college career at Oklahoma in 2019 after spending the first three years at Alabama.
