The bracket is out for the 2025 NCAA Tournament with the announcement of the field earlier this afternoon on CBS. For some of those without a berth, though, will now come a bid into the NIT.

The National Invitational Tournament has released its field of 32 teams tonight. It’ll start with 16 games with teams seeded one through eight over this year’s four regions in Dallas, Dayton, Irvine, and San Francisco.

Among the field are just four teams from power conferences with SMU (23-10), Stanford (20-13), and Georgia Tech (17-16) out of the ACC and then with Oklahoma State (15-17) from the Big 12. That’s less than a third of how many were in there just last season with 13. Part of that could be disinterest in the event or in continuing the season after missing out on March Madness or because of other postseason events that have come, including possibly The College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas.

The rest of the field is made up of mid-majors across a dozen other conferences. Of those 28 teams, several were among the best in their respective standings, including ten who lost their conference championships and being a game away from being in the big dance instead
