Seth Greenberg reveals two ACC teams need wins on Saturday
Seth Greenberg has his eyes on the ACC on Saturday. According to the ESPN College GameDay analyst, there are two ACC teams that could benefit from victories this weekend.
Evidently, Greenberg believes the showdown in Blacksburg between North Carolina and Virginia Tech has huge implications.
“I think both teams — Virginia Tech and North Carolina,” stated Greenberg. “Both of those teams, they’e void of a Quad 1 win. There has never been an at-large team from a Power 5 conference that’s gotten into the NCAA Tournament without a Quad 1 win. North Carolina, they get a win on the road at Cassell Coliseum, and you don’t just stroll into Cassell Coliseum and get an easy win — they get that win, that’ll be a Quad 1 win.
“On the other hand, Virginia Tech — they’ve won six in a row, and they’re just trying to continue to build their resume. This time of the year, you just need to win games and stay alive.
“I call it Bee Gees games — staying alive. Look it up, kids.”
As Greenberg mentioned, Virginia Tech enters the game on a six-game winning streak. Additionally, the Hokies are coming off a couple of big ones — victories over Virginia and Syracuse in their last two showdowns.
On the other hand, North Carolina is backing into the ACC showdown. The Tar Heels were defeated handily in Chapel Hill by Pittsburgh their last time on the court. Now, Hubert Davis and company will be looking for a huge victory over Virginia Tech.
Only one ACC squad will be able to strengthen their resume in Blacksburg. A win for Virginia Tech or North Carolina won’t come easy.

Hubert Davis on North Carolina bouncing back at Virginia Tech: ‘Got no choice.’
The rollercoaster season for North Carolina continued Wednesday night in a stunning 76-67 home loss to Pitt. Understandably, First-year coach Hubert Davis was not happy, but explained that his team has no choice but to move forward with urgency if it wants to make the NCAA Tournament.
During his postgame press conference, visibly frustrated, Hubert Davis cut off a reporter to explain the urgency for North Carolina after the bad loss.
“Got no choice here. Yeah, sorry to cut you off. There’s just no choice. As I said before, you can sit here and whine and complain and point fingers and make excuses and continue to be down on yourself or you can show up the next day and get ready to compete and fight and get after it. And so that’s my expectation, that’s our job, and that’s what this team and this program will do.”
The game ended as a Quadrant 4 loss for North Carolina. But Pitt jumped from 179 to 159 in the NET rankings on Thursday morning, making it a Q3 loss for the Tar Heels. They remain on the bubble with dwindling chances to put a big win on the resume before the postseason.
