Shaedon Sharpe, 2022's No. 1 prospect, commits to Kentucky
Shaedon Sharpe, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Glendale (Ariz.) Dream City Christian has committed to Kentucky basketball for the class of 2022, a source close to Sharpe told On3.
Sharpe is the Wildcats’ second commitment of the 2022 class, following four-star point guard Skyy Clark. Clark is ranked no. 21 overall in the On3 100 rankings, and the no. 4 point guard.
Sharpe ultimately chose the Wildcats over Arizona and the NBA G-League, but also received offers from Kansas, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Oregon, USC, among countless others.
Fun fact: Shaedon Sharpe is the first no. 1 ranked prospect that Kentucky has landed in a decade. The last time was Nerlens Noel in 2012.
What does this commitment mean for Kentucky?
It’s no secret that last season was one of the worst years to be a Kentucky basketball fan. The Wildcats finished 8th in the SEC, and ended their season with an overall record of 9-16.

A lot of the struggle for the Wildcats revolved around scoring the basketball. Kentucky did not have a “go-to guy” to get a bucket down the stretch last season.
Sharpe is that guy.
What Sharpe does best is score the ball consistently. This past AAU season playing for UPLAY Canada on the EYBL circuit, he averaged 22.6 points a game, shooting it 48.6% from the field.

Who’s next to commit to Kentucky?
A handful of players are still considering Kentucky for the 2022 class – Jaden Bradley, Chris Livingston, Dereck Lively, Adem Bona, and Cason Wallace.
Chris Livingston has set his commitment date for Oct. 15, while Cason Wallace is expected to commit near the end of September. The rest have not set a commitment date.
I discussed where Kentucky stands with these remaining prospects here.
