Shane Beamer assesses South Carolina 24-16 halftime lead over LSU: 'We're trying to screw this thing up'
South Carolina went into the halftime locker room up 24-16 on LSU, but Shane Beamer knew it was far from over.
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers can certainly help. But the South Carolina quarterback limped going into halftime, causing concern around the Gamecocks.
Beamer raved about his quarterback though, who also scored on a 75-yard scamper in the first half.
“Well, I mean, he’s a hell of a player, poised, a competitor,” Beamer said. “(But), we’re trying to screw this thing up. Offense, defense, special teams, just self inflicted mistakes, taking sacks and missed tackles. You know, not getting points right there at the end of the half is a shame.
“But you know, we knew this was going to be a SEC heavyweight fight. They got a hell of a football team, hell of a program, hell of a coach, and we got a great football team. So we got to go in here and get ready to go win this thing in the second half.”
Beamer also provided an update on Sellers’ injury.
“It doesn’t help, but we got confidence in Robby Ashford and Davis Beville,” Beamer said. “You know (Sellers has) got a little bit of an ankle (injury), we’ll go in there and look at it and see where we are.”

Beamer mentioned Sellers showing some good, and bad, things in the first 30 minutes. He was eight-of-15 passing for 112 yards and one interception. But, he had 10 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Raheim “Rocket” Sanders” added 10 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
LSU meanwhile, struggled to a get running game going. The total was 13 carries for 41 yards combined while Garrett Nussmeier threw for 128 yards and a score.
At one point, Beamer and crew were rolling, up 17-0, before LSU started answering. Going into the second half, the Gamecocks will have to play a clean brand of football.
