South Carolina and Clemson have both had really good years to date, thanks in large part to the play of their quarterbacks. Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik and Gamecocks QB LaNorris Sellers have been two of the top signal callers in the country in 2024.

Klubnik has accounted for more than 3,100 total yards and 34 touchdowns this season, while Sellers is at 2,599 yards and 22 touchdowns, despite missing 1.5 games.

In addition to putting up impressive stats, the two are also excellent at getting out of trouble, avoiding sacks and turning negative plays into positives. Shane Beamer spoke Tuesday about the two quarterbacks and what makes them so good.

“Probably the biggest thing that jumps out is their ability to get themselves out of trouble in the pocket,” Shane Beamer said. “LaNorris, obviously, it’s been well written and talked about some of the sacks that he’s gotten out of. You could say the same thing about Cade, as well. I mean there’s a lot of plays where he’s sacked and he comes out of there. And it’s not just coming out of there, it’s coming out of there and throwing a 50-yard touchdown pass.”

The most notable instance of that happening came a few weeks back against Virginia Tech.

With Clemson and Virginia Tech tied at 7 midway through the third quarter, the Tigers were facing a third-and-7. The Hokies got a free runner at Cade Klubnik, who was hit and it appeared as though he would be sacked.

Instead, Klubnik spun out of trouble and connected with TJ Moore for a 41-yard touchdown pass to give Clemson the lead. The Tigers never looked back. That play was one of many this season that really impressed Shane Beamer.

“He had one against Virginia Tech where they had him on the ground. He comes out of it, throws a touchdown pass down Virginia Tech’s right sideline. There’s one against Virginia where he gets out of it, rolls out and throws a deep ball down the left side on Virginia’s sideline,” Beamer said. “There’s one against Pitt where he gets out of there and runs for positive yardage. So his ability to get himself out of trouble is really, really impressive.”

In addition, like LaNorris Sellers, Cade Klubnik has also really improved as a passer throughout the year. He seems more under control in the pocket and his accuracy has improved.

“And then I think just the way he’s grown as a passer, as well. You see that development just like LaNorris, and think a lot of him,” Beamer said. “I got to know him when he was in high school and I was coaching at Oklahoma. Austin, Texas was my recruiting area. So you know, recruited him. We had him up to a couple of games in Norman. Think a lot of him as a person and enjoy watching him play.”
