Shane Beamer explains placing Davis Beville on scholarship
South Carolina coach Shane Beamer confirmed Tuesday evening that quarterback Davis Beville has been placed on scholarship for the 2024 season.
Beville initially came to the Gamecocks as a walk-on, transferring from Oklahoma.
“Davis was a guy that came in here his first year, or first semester, you know, when he came from Oklahoma he came in as a walk-on coming from Oklahoma,” Beamer said. “And we kind of talked about, ‘Let’s just see how things go.’ He’s done a good job.”
In a quarterback competition that officially saw LaNorris Sellers named the starter on Tuesday, Davis Beville will likely run third string behind Auburn transfer Robby Ashford.
Still, that he’s caught the eye of the South Carolina coaching staff enough to earn a scholarship says a lot.
“This is home for me. This is close as I get to being back in Greenville,” Davis Beville told GamecockCentral.com. “That was kind of the biggest thing in the process. I could have gone back to Oklahoma. I had another year there, but I wanted to come home, be in front of my family, my friends.

“I trusted myself and ended up in the spot I am in now. That’s a big blessing from coach Beamer, and I really thank him for that.”
In two seasons at Pittsburgh from 2020-21, Davis Beville went 8-of-14 passing for 88 yards, with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He then headed to Oklahoma. He played some in 2022, going 15-of-30 for 102 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception.
So if he makes a significant impact at South Carolina it will be his first major contribution at the college level.
Whatever the case, South Carolina is clearly happy to have Davis Beville.
“He left a scholarship in Norman to come here as a walk-on and we said, ‘Let’s see how spring practice and the summer goes,'” Beamer said. “He’s done what he’s supposed to do.”
