Shane Beamer tells hilarious story on how South Carolina team 'shut up' when Nick Saban walked on field
Shane Beamer told a hilarious story about South Carolina’s walkthrough when Nick Saban came through ahead of Week 3.
With ESPN’s College GameDay in town, Saban got a chance to see the Gamecocks’ practice. Well, the players who are all loose and ready, “shut up” according to Beamer.
Beamer wanted his team to be themselves, but of course, it’s a different aura when Saban comes to town.
“Yeah, just be who we say we are,” Beamer said on College GameDay. “We talked about it at the hotel before we came over. You (fans) are going to fuel us today with the energy in the stadium, but also making sure that we don’t get out there and lose our minds like every single play …
“They’ve handled distractions pretty well, other than yesterday when Coach Saban came to our walk through. We’re pretty loose and confident. He walked out on the field. The whole team shut up. And even to this day, they’re like, I’m not going to get my butt ripped by Nick Saban.”
Saban is impressed with South Carolina though. And they very well have a shot to knock off LSU at home Saturday afternoon.
“One thing you can tell your team is they improved more from week one to week two than any team I’ve seen in the country,” Saban said to Beamer. “That’s a tribute to you.”

One thing Beamer can rely on Saturday is QB LaNorris Sellers. In experience and skillset, Sellers is a much different player than Spencer Rattler, last year’s starter.
But during The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, Beamer revealed that his 19-year-old signal-caller is actually mature beyond his years.

“It’s been good, LaNorris is very poised. He’s not your typical redshirt freshman, he’s a very mature young man,” Beamer said. “He redshirted last year and he was able to play in a couple games, but more importantly, he was able to sit in that quarterback room all year with Spencer.”
Last season, Sellers got the opportunity to not just learn from one of the top quarterbacks in college football, but get the experience of preparing and traveling with the team that redshirted players typically don’t get. Which has clearly paid off after completing 71.4% of his passes last week with 166 yards and two touchdowns in the Gamecocks’ 31-6 win over Kentucky on the road.
