Shaw's Superlatives: Best rebounder in the 2023 class
With recruiting almost at a screeching halt, the never-ending search for content landed on the 2023 class. A senior class that saw 95 percent of its top 100 prospects sign during the early signing period. I wanted to dig deeper into the class and hand out some senior superlatives.
The high school season is only a couple of weeks old, so what should you be looking for? Over the next couple of days, I will go through the ‘best of’ in the senior class. Today we will talk about the best rebounder in high school basketball. Future superlatives going out will include most explosive, best shooter, and more.
Board man gets paid
Kawhi Leonard made the ‘Board man gets paid’ phrase famous while in college. The two-time NBA Finals MVP explained this in 2019, “It’s about working hard, basically, outworking the opponent. Rebounds help you win games.”
I wanted to start my superlatives with the best rebounder because that includes a sense of toughness. There is more to rebounding than just out-jumping your opponent. Tracking the ball, positioning yourself for the ball, fighting for the ball, holding on to the ball; there is a skill to being a good rebounder, and it all starts with toughness, one of my favorite traits a player can have.

Five-star C Sean Stewart (Duke)
Height/Weight: 6-8/215
High school: Montverde (FL) Academy
On3 Consensus: No. 9
If there is one word to describe Sean Stewart’s style of play, it’s ferocity. Stewart’s main two goals when on the floor are to grab every rebound and dunk everything in sight. It is because of this mentality that the undersized five-man is able to produce at the level he does.
Stewart is averaging 11.9 rebounds per game in his high school career, including 13.6 per game last season. The five-star played for the Florida Rebels on Nike’s EYBL Circuit this summer; he averaged 9.7 rebounds per game. This Summer, while winning a FIBA gold medal with the USA Basketball u17 team, Stewart averaged 7.0 rebounds in 18 minutes per game.
See the ball, get the ball. For my money, Sean Stewart is the best rebounder in the 2023 class.
