In the wake of a Colorado overtime victory over Baylor, the fans stormed the field, creating a unique environment for both players and fans alike at Folsom Field.

At times, things might have gotten a little too raucous in the post-game scrum.

“I was trying to get up out the way,” receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. said on the 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders podcast. “It get crazy out there. I turned up with the fans a little piece, but after that they go to… they be about to tackle me, so I be trying to get up out the way.”

Sanders himself had a slightly different experience. He’s a more high-profile player, so he’s a lot more recognizable down on the field.

And Sanders wanted to repay the faithful for their support over the last year and change.

“It’s a lot of kids and it’s a lot of people that take their time out there,” Sanders said. “But they’re not able to actually get the chance to see us up close in person and just have a conversation. So I just told everybody just pull up. We just chill and take pictures, whatever.”

That wasn’t enough for some, apparently.

Before long, it started to get rowdy on the field and player safety became a bit of an issue.

“So then it was a couple guys came in there, I said, ‘Hey bro, when y’all rush the field you know that stuff hurts, right?'” Sanders said. “And y’all, ‘Let’s go, let’s go’ and be hitting me. You know I just got hit out there, so it doesn’t feel good, bro. I almost felt somebody reaching for my chain, I said, ‘Hold on, hold on.’ I turn around and looked back, everybody smiling like this. I turn around, they’re trying to snatch my chain. I thought we was on the same team.

“I’m telling you, from my own fans. But nah, they be too aggressive sometimes.”

Colorado will be on the road this weekend, then it’ll be a bye week. So it’ll be a minute before there’s another opportunity for fans to rush the field.

But from the sound of it, Colorado will likely have some talks with security personnel to ensure a more orderly aftermath to games in the future.

Overall, though, the outcome was a positive.

“They be turned up, though,” Horn said. “Our fanbase, they be out there turned up. I’d like them to keep it coming.”
