Shelton Henderson, one of the top small forwards in the class and the top-ranked player in Texas, has narrowed his list of schools down to three. Moving forward, the 6-foot-6 senior out of Bellaire High (TX) will consider Duke, Louisville, and Texas.

Henderson, a native of Houston, has taken official visits to each of his finalists.

He previously considered Texas Tech, LSU, and Houston.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Shelton Henderson is a four-star and the No. 16 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle. He’s also the No. 5 small forward prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Henderson talks programs involved

In a recent interview with On3, Henderson discussed the schools recruiting him.

Duke: “I feel like just me building that relationship with Coach Scheyer and Coach Lucas and having that connection with them has really helped. Just being on the phone with them talking about how they can see me playing with them and just the culture that they have there and the players that they send to the league. It’s something I really look at because that’s my dream so just hearing from them a lot I think is something special. Just like the fan base that’s up there, the culture, Durham, Cameron Indoor stadium, is I’m really looking forward to seeing firsthand when I go on my visit.”

Louisville: “Me and Coach Kelsey have been building a great relationship since he got the job. And coach Hamilton leaving LSU and going to Louisville and having him hit me up right away that shows that they really believe in me and coming in there and making an immediate impact. Them being my first visit I’m really looking forward to that. I really enjoyed talking to Coach Kelsey. He’s really really cool dude, really easy to connect with so I think just think building that relationship is definitely going to be easy.”

Texas: “Having a conversation with Coach Terry and just build another relationship with him and coach Brandon has been really really good experience. Just the whole staff having that belief in me coming in there as a freshman and just helping that program out and continue building what they have up there in Austin. The culture that they have up there too like the fan base and all they have to offer, I have really been paining attention to that. Just being in Texas also is something I look at.”

Henderson recently named one of the Top-10 Defensive Stoppers

On3’s Jamie Shaw recently wrote that Shelton Henderson was one of the top defensive stoppers in the 2025 class:

“It is it always the prettiest with Shelton Henderson, but more often than not, the results are productive. Henderson has a lengthy and strong 6-foot-6 frame. He is able to guard all three perimeter positions and can even switch down a lineup to guard the four for some possessions. Henderson gathers deflections in the passing lanes and he is a solid rebounder at his position. A guy who simply does the tough-guy things on the floor that others typically do not want to do.”

Scouting Report

“Shelton Henderson is a strong-framed, densely built, explosive wing. Listed at 6-6, he has explosive burst and plays with an innate toughness on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he is comfortable on the ball. He has a good first-step to get by his man and the strength to hold him off with contact. He has good floor vision and makes quick decisions with the ball. Comfortable as a secondary initiator. The jump shoot will need re-tooling. It is inconsistent right now, allowing defenses to sag off and clog the lane. Henderson is a good positional rebounder and he can defend up or down a line up, comfortable containing the one through four at this level. He has an alpha mentality and brings a lot of winning attributes to a team. Production follows him in each setting he has played.”
