Shemar Stewart, Bryce Anderson, TJ Shanahan injury updates: Mike Elko reveals provides latest
Head coach Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies are getting ready for another SEC test against the Arkansas Razorbacks. However, at this point in the season, several Aggies are dealing with injuries going into the game.
During the weekly SEC teleconference, Mike Elko shared injury updates for defensive lineman Shemar Stewart, defensive back Bryce Anderson, and offensive lineman TJ Shanahan.
“Yeah, Shemar Stewart will come out today available,” Mike Elko said. “Bryce Anderson will come out questionable. TJ will be out this week and we’ll kind of reevaluate next week what his status is.”
Stewart is a junior on the defensive line who earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2022. To this point in 2024, he’s started all four games for Texas A&M but appeared to suffer an injury in the game against Bowling Green on Saturday. Then, for his part, Anderson is a junior who has played in all four games this season with three starts.
The offensive line took a hit with the loss of TJ Shanahan in the middle of that unit. A freshman who has appeared in every game this season, largely as the backup center, Mike Elko was hesitant to share that team’s plan for replacing him in the game against Arkansas.

“Without telling everyone on the planet what we’re doing, a couple of options,” Elko said.
The biggest concern for Texas A&M moving forward remains the status of starting quarterback Conner Weigman. He’s battling an AC sprain that has sidelined him for the last two games, with Mike Elko not even having him dress for the game against Bowling Green. Earlier in the week, he had also given an update on Weigman’s status, explaining he’ll be a game-time decision.
Mike Elko also explained the decision not to dress Conner Weigman for the Week 4 win.
“We just didn’t want to give him the shot again,” Elko said. “He’s still just dealing with the pain of that shoulder injury. So, it’s just trying to get him to where he can throw comfortably. We didn’t feel like it was the right thing to try to go back through the same process again. So, we decided to just go with Jaylen [Henderson] as number two tonight.”
The game against Arkansas is always an intense one for Texas A&M. That’s going to be true once again in 2024, with both teams looking to earn their second win in SEC play this season and helping them start out the first half of the season on the right foot.
