With Michigan Wolverines quarterback Jack Tuttle working to come back from an injury, head coach Sherrone Moore shared an update on him and the role he may have when he returns.

Moore, admittedly, kept his answer vague, not wanting to commit to anything. That includes both how long it may take Tuttle to get all the way back and what his potential role could be. This comes after the Wolverines struggled offensively in their opener against Fresno State.

“He’s just working through some things and he’ll be back throwing here even more and be in a good place,” Sherrone Moore said. “So, we’ll see when he gets back.”

Jack Tuttle was ruled out for Week 1 against Fresno State. That came amid a quarterback battle at Michigan that didn’t see Sherrone Moore name a starting quarterback until Davis Warren was announced on the day before the game. Presumably, Tuttle was getting a look and had the potential to play had he been healthy.

When Tuttle was ruled out of Week 1, there wasn’t any information on the exact nature of the injury he was dealing with. Moore, similarly, remained vague about the severity of the injury and the exact nature of it.

Coming out of high school, Jack Tuttle was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018, according to the On3 Industry Rating. His career began at Utah and he transferred to Indiana where he spent four seasons before then transferring to Michigan ahead of the 2023 season. He went on to play in six games last season, completing 88.2 percent of passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.

This comes as Michigan has struggled on offense to find a replacement for JJ McCarthy at the quarterback position. Those concerns have led On3’s Ari Wasserman to question preseason expectations for the Wolverines as a whole.

“If Michigan doesn’t get medium-level to high-level quarterback play, then I think we need to reconfigure what our expectations are for this team,” Wasserman said. “We’re going to find out on Saturday against a very talented Texas team, whether or not Michigan is going to be able to produce or squeeze value out of the quarterback position. Even though JJ McCarthy didn’t run up the stats last year, he did make plays that helped Michigan win the game. He was very efficient at times. He always had one jaw-dropping play a game. The man was drafted in the top 15. So, that is a huge drop-off. We’ll see where it goes, but I do really, really feel like I’m concerned about the quarterback position for Michigan.”

Sherrone Moore and Michigan will need to quickly find a solution they’re comfortable with on offense. In Week 2, the Wolverines will have a marquee game against Texas that promises to be a difficult game.
