Sherrone Moore signs Michigan contract; Santa Ono, Warde Manuel release joint statement
Michigan athletics and head football coach Sherrone Moore now have a completed and signed contract, university leadership announced on Wednesday. Moore had been coaching without a finalized contract through his first two weeks of coaching.
While Moore was still working under the eventual terms of the contract via a memorandum of understanding (MOU), having him formally under contract gives both parties contractual recourse down the line.
And both parties — Moore and the leadership duo of president Santa Ono and athletic director Warde Manuel —released statements on the deal getting signed.
“Out University of Michigan administration led by President Santa Ono and Athletic Director Warde Manuel has been tremendous throughout this process, and I am excited to have this contract completed,” Moore said in his statement. “Their support for our team is greatly appreciated and all three of us are aligned in our goals for this football program. We want the attention to be on the players that work so hard to represent this team and university at the highest level. All my focus is and always will be centered on the mental, physical and spiritual development of the young men that suit up to play for Michigan. Go Blue!”

Ono and Moore issued a joint statement — shared alongside Moore’s — echoing many of the same points.
“We are excited to announced that the full contract for University of Michigan Football Coach Sherrone Moore has been signed by all parties,” that statement said. “He is a proven leader and has been a great ambassador during his seven-plus years representing Michigan. Our university and athletic department leadership is behind Coach Moore, his coaching staff, and the great student-athletes that compete on the field and in the classroom. We are excited to see our team take the field this Saturday against Arkansas State.”
Michigan hosts Arkansas State at noon on Saturday as the Wolverines seek to rebound from a Week 2 loss.
