The Colorado Buffaloes are getting ready to travel to Orlando to take on the UCF Knights for a battle in Week 5. Ahead of that game, head coach Deion Sanders shared an update on a pair of key players, defensive back Shilo Sanders and running back Dallan Hayden.

For the time being, Shilo still could play in the game. However, with a bye week upcoming, Sanders also explained that it might be smart to have him sit out the trip to UCF.

“Shilo is on pace to be back,” Deion Sanders said. “I’m not gonna count out this week. I’m not gonna count that out, but if he holds off this week that’ll give him two more weeks, which is pretty smart.”

Shilo Sanders went out with an arm injury that ended up requiring surgery in the team’s Week 2 loss to Nebraska. After the surgery, it was noted that it would probably take him two or three weeks to get back on the field. Deion Sanders also noted that his son is a fast healer.

When Shilo Sanders is able to return, he’ll offer a boost to the Colorado secondary. This season, the Colorado defense is 72nd in passing defense, giving up 208.5 yards per game on the ground. They’re going up against a UCF team that has heavily relied on the run to this point in the season, meaning that defensive backs will likely need to step up and make plays on running backs.

For his part, Dallan Hayden has missed two weeks with a high-ankle sprain. Luckily, it now looks like he’s going to be able to suit up for the Buffaloes.

“Hayden is gonna play. He’s gonna play,” Sanders said. “He worked his butt off today. Looked great. Looked like he hadn’t missed a beat. So, he’s gonna play.”

This season, Dallan Hayden has rushed for 52 yards in two games for an average of 3.7 yards per carry. As a team, Colorado has also struggled on the ground, averaging just 68.75 yards per game on the ground. That’s 130th in the country in rushing offense. If Hayden can provide some pop in the rushing game, then it will make things easier on the Colorado passing attack.

Both Colorado and UCF enter their game having won their first Big 12 game of the season in comeback fashion, with the Knights coming back from down 21 against TCU to win while the Buffaloes hit a Hail Mary to force overtime against Baylor.
