Colorado safety Shilo Sanders is expected to miss two to three weeks after undergoing arm surgery following a recent injury, and head coach Deion Sanders provided an update on his status on Thursday.

Speaking on the Colorado Football Coaches Show, Deion Sanders revealed that Shilo Sanders is doing excellently since the surgery.

“Shilo’s great,” the Colorado head coach said. “He wants to play this week, I’m like, ‘Yeah, you might want to get some running in this week if you want to play.'”

Even as Sanders was going into the training room following the Nebraska game, he was reportedly adamant that he might not even miss any time. That won’t be the case, of course, but it’s clear he’s itching to get back onto the field.

The injury occurred after Shilo Sanders had gotten off to an excellent start to the season. He had 11 tackles in a game and some change before suffering the injury. He also recorded one tackle for a loss in the early going this year.

Colorado would love to get him back, and it sounds like all is going according to plan for a relatively short absence.

Deion Sanders jokes about family’s misfortunes

Shilo Sanders wasn’t the only Sanders family member to have an injury-related issue on Saturday. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders also briefly left the game to get checked out.

But there was another issue that wasn’t publicized, at least until Deion Sanders brought it to light on his coaches show.

“You know what’s so funny that I told the kids, this is how we think, because we make a joke out of anything because you’ve got to be light in life,” Sanders said. “Shedeur got dinged. OK. First of all, I think I said it in the press conference, it’s not proper to go in during a play. It’s just not proper football etiquette. You wait till TV timeout or whatever. So he and Chidozie (Nwankwo) waited till the timeout and they went in, but Shedeur gets the criticism for going in.

“But he goes in to get checked out to make sure he’s straight. So he’s dinged a little bit. Chidozie’s out. Shilo’s out. And something attacks me on the plane that I almost passed out, so they had to come up. So I look over to Bucky (Deion Sanders Jr.), I said, ‘Son, make sure you wear your seatbelt home.’ Said the devil done took three Sanders out in one day.”

Deion Sanders then had a good laugh with the co-host of the program.
