Colorado is off to a slow start to Saturday’s game against Nebraska, down two touchdowns after one quarter of play. Now, the Buffaloes could be without one of their best defensive players moving forward. Defensive back Shilo Sanders is back in the locker room.

While the exact injury is not yet known, Sanders was shown on the NBC broadcast walking without his helmet. Sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen says he is probable to return to the game.

“Not much new to report there,” Tappen said. “The team personnel was holding his helmet as he walked to the locker room. Right now, I’m being told he is probable to return to this game.”

The Colorado defense has been on the field quite a lot but the Sanders injury did occur quite early. Tappen gave her report in the opening stages of the second quarter.

Sanders was one of the high-profile recruits to follow Deion Sanders, his father, to Colorado. He starred in the Jackson State secondary and has been a consistent presence in Boulder ever since making the jump up to the FBS level.

Nebraska feels good about their passing attack, especially with quarterback Dylan Raiola running the show. Although, not too much has gone downfield thus far. A lot of passes have been near or around the line of scrimmage as the Huskers want to get in space.

At some point, a deep ball play will be dialed up by Nebraska offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield. Colorado does have faith in its secondary, mainly cornerback Travis Hunter. But if Sanders is not on the field, the Buffaloes feel as if they are without one of their best players.

Given that his status is currently “probable” there has to be some hope Sanders returns to the field. Otherwise, it’s a huge loss in a game where a few stops are going to be needed down the stretch.
