Simmons Scoop: Jamaal Jarrett choosing between different paths
Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley four-star defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett is set to make a decision soon between his final three schools of Auburn, Georgia and North Carolina.
But On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons said on The Simmons Scoop that it is really a two-horse race.
“I think it comes down to North Carolina, the in state school, the school that offered him first before anyone else, the school he grew up a fan of. He’s visited Chapel Hill more than any other college campus,” Simmons said.
“They’re going up against Georgia. Georgia has tried to use that Jordan Davis factor, taking him from North Carolina at Mallard Creek High School, building him into a first round draft pick on a defensive line.”
The Bulldogs have the current advantage in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but Simmons said this race isn’t over.
“I think it comes down to relationships at UNC and Chapel Hill, just that comfortability, and then just the development side at Georgia,” Simmons said. “I put a prediction in back early in the spring for Georgia on the on On3 RPM. I still feel good about that prediction, but I don’t think he’s made that final call to those coaches just yet.But I like where Georgia sits heading into next week.”

Jamaal Jarrett is one of the best players from North Carolina
Jamaal Jarrett is currently the No. 159 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
“He’s a kid that I think appears higher on recruiting list than he does maybe in his ranking,” Simmons said. “He’s a guy that teams covet to kind of build around on that defensive front,, being a monster in that 6-5. 6-6 350-pound range that can move athletically. Some schools liked him on the offensive side early on. They’ve all shifted that to the defensive line side now as he makes his decision.”
Jarrett ranks second from the state of North Carolina in the On3 Consensus behind Rolesville (N.C.) four-star wide receiver Noah Rogers.
He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $9.4k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
