When SMU and TCU get together, there is a little more than just the Iron Skillet on the line. It’s Dallas vs. Forth Worth for one of the more underrated rivalries in college football. Unfortunately, this year was the last edition for the foreseeable future, adding a little juice to Saturday’s matchup on the Hilltop.

Emotions ran so high, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes was thrown out of the game early in the second half. SMU wound up big winners, putting up a 60 burger for a 66-42 win over the Horned Frogs — an Iron Skillet they will hold onto for quite some time.

Once the clock hit zero, the social media trolling began. SMU put together a hilarious compilation of videos, with Dykes frying up frog legs in a Mustangs polo being one of them, dating back to his time with the program.

You can check out the full video from SMU here.

The exact type of video posted by SMU can be seen as a shot at their rivals as well. TCU became well known for posting funky videos during their 2022 College Football Playoff run, heavily trolling whoever they would defeat. It was used against them in incredible fashion by the Mustangs’ social media staff.

Ahead of the game, TCU decided to release their own video and jab fun at the ACC due to the game being broadcast on the CW. An abnormal kickoff time was on the schedule too, going at 4 p.m. CT. All because SMU joined the conference this offseason, giving the CW a unique opportunity to showcase the rivalry.

Well, the ACC itself clapped back at TCU with a postgame tweet of their own. In their eyes, folks in Fort Worth might be thankful a bigger network did not pick up the game to see the performance.

Unfortunately, this is the last of the SMU-TCU matchup we will see for quite some time. There are no scheduled meetings and there are no plans to get each other back on the schedule. As usual with these types of games, blame has been thrown around by both departments.

Winning this one was going to mean a lot, no matter who came out on top. SMU will get to keep the Iron Skillet in Dallas for an extended period of time now, something you know Rhett Lashlee and his program are not too upset about.
