SMU CB Jahari Rogers plans to redshirt, transfer
SMU CB Jahari Rogers will be ending his own season and transferring, he announced on Monday.
Mike Roach at 247Sports first reported the new, Rogers will redshirt for the remainder of this year. On3’s Pete Nakos has since confirmed that news regarding the fifth-year defensive back and eventually the defender himself cosigned it. That would make him the latest player in college football to preserve an extra campaign’s worth of eligibility with a redshirt.
Rogers has appeared in just three games this season for the Mustangs. In those appearances, he has posted three tackles, three pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Most of that production came in their win over TCU the weekend before last.
Rogers has spent the past four years at SMU. This is his fifth collegiate season overall after spending one year as a freshman at Florida. In that time over 43 games in Gainesville and Dallas, Rogers has totaled 75 tackles, 15 deflections, three interceptions, and that forced fumble.
Rogers, a native of Texas, played high school football at Arlington. He was a four-star prospect there as the No. 91 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle. He also rated as the No. 9 CB and No. 11 prospect in the state. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Several other players have taken advantage of this option for their careers with the current season being a third of the way complete. Rogers is now the latest with this news coming out of SMU on Monday.

Jahari Rogers will reportedly be ending his season early and sit out the rest of the 2024 season. While the Mustangs are 4-1, the former Arlington High standout is in a bit of a reserve role.
