SMU forward Yohan Traore enters NCAA transfer portal

SMU forward Yohan Traore has entered the NCAA transfer portal again, On3’s Joe Tipton has learned. He will be seeking a fourth school in as many years.
Traore initially enrolled at Auburn for the 2022-23 season. But after playing sparingly, he opted to hit the transfer portal. He wound up at UC Santa Barbara for a year.
While with the Gauchos, Yohan Traore posted the kind of numbers that made him a coveted recruit out of high school. He started in all 30 games that he appeared in, averaging 14.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Following that, Traore transferred back to a higher level, landing at SMU in 2024-25. He started 16 of 32 games, recording 6.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest.
Yohan Traore won’t be the only player from this year’s SMU frontcourt to test the waters in the transfer portal, either. Already one other has announced his intentions to seek a new home.

SMU loses a center to the transfer portal
In addition to Yohan Traore, center Jerrell Colbert is entering the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He averaged 2.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists for the Mustangs during the 2024-25 season.
The ACC program was the third team in as many years for Colbert. He spent 2021-22 with the LSU Tigers, where he saw action in four games. He made a name for himself with Kansas State during the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 2.6 points in 31 appearances for the Wildcats during his lone season in Manhattan.
Moreover, Colbert played high school basketball at Houston (Houston, TX), where he was a four-star prospect. This is according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see who the fourth team Jerrell Colbert suits-up for is. He’s still trying to find his footing in college basketball, and it’s evident he believes he’s better served entering the portal once again than sticking with SMU for the 2025-26 season.
