SMU’s trip to Orlando, FL, to take on UCF has been postponed, according to both teams’ social media accounts. With Hurricane Ian fastly approaching on the state of Florida and forecasted to make landfall on Wednesday, Saturday’s matchup has been moved to Sunday.

The original kickoff for SMU’s AAC conference season opener was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, at 2:30 p.m. CDT. It will now be played on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12:00 p.m. CDT.

SMU is coming fresh off of a tough loss to heated rival TCU. the Horned Frogs were able to beat the Mustangs at home 42-34. The loss is even more disheartening when you consider that former SMU head coach Sonny Dykes left the program in the offseason to become the new head coach at TCU. The Mustangs look to quickly bounce back from that loss and start the conference portion of their schedule off strong with a victory over UCF.

Despite the eagerness to see SMU beat down on their AAC rival, it is essential that the safety of the players and individuals within the state of Florida be put at the forefront. Ian is expected to cause significant damage within the area. So, the best thing for these two schools, and others likely to be impacted by Hurricane Ian, is to hold off until the conditions are better suited for this matchup. On3 will provide additional information if any further changes or adjustments are made to the time and scheduling of this game.

Florida State AD Michael Alford ‘confident’ game against Wake Forest can be played Saturday despite Hurricane Ian

With Hurricane Ian bearing down on the Gulf Coast of Florida and expected to make landfall late Wednesday or early Thursday, several college football games around the state have been relocated or rescheduled. Florida State is slated to host Wake Forest at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon and Seminoles athletic director Michael Alford is confident the game will be played then.

He expressed as much in a statement released on Tuesday and shared by Warchant.com. He did add that they will continue to monitor the situation and reassess as necessary.

“Following out most recent briefing today with authorities, University administration, transportation officials, security, law enforcement and emergency responders, we remain confident that we will be able to safely host Saturday’s football game against Wake Forest at its scheduled kickoff time. We will continue to monitor the hurricane and all weather advisories and take action if needed to ensure the safety of all involved,” Alford said in the statement, in part.
