SMU vs. Boston College odds: Fenway Bowl point spread released
After finishing the season 11-2 and claiming the AAC Championship, SMU is set to take on Boston College in the Fenway Bowl. The Mustangs were hoping to sneak into a New Year’s Six Bowl after winning nine straight games to close the year, but unfortunately they came in at No. 24 in the final College Football Playoff rankings and missed out.
SMU still has a chance to reach 12 wins for only the second time in program history, and Vegas likes its odds to do so. The Mustangs open as 10.5-point favorites in the matchup according to FanDuel, which has also set the over/under at 50.5.

Location: Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts
SMU’s offense has been among the best in the country this season to rank sixth with 40.6 points per game and 14th in total offense. However, starting quarterback Preston Stone went down with an injury in the final game of the regular season and is out for the year. Kevin Jennings stepped up to start in the AAC title game, but struggled as he finished 19-of-33 passing for 203 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
Jennings did show more mobility than Stone, however, rushing for 63 yards on 15 carries. The Mustangs finished the game with three total turnovers and will certainly hope to be more efficient with a few more weeks to prepare.

Defensively, SMU has also been one of the better teams in the country this season to rank 12th in both scoring defense and total defense. Edge rusher Elijah Roberts has been extremely dominant to record 11 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three passes defended and two forced fumbles.
Boston College finished the year 6-6 to earn its first bowl appearance since the 2019 season. Eagles fans will essentially get a home game, so expect support to be strong in the crowd.
Quarterback Thomas Castellanos has been the heartbeat of Boston College’s offense this season. Although his 15 touchdowns to 13 interceptions is a shaky ratio, he’s been a threat with his legs as one of the best rushing quarterbacks in the country. Castellanos enters this contest with 957 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns and is averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
The Eagles defense has struggled this season and ranks 96th in the country with 29.5 points allowed per game. That should give SMU confidence that it can move the ball and come away with the victory here, as Vegas is predicting.
