SMU has landed a commitment from former Louisville defensive tackle William Spencer following a visit to campus this week.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Spencer also strongly considered Vanderbilt.

Besides the Mustangs and Commodores, Spencer was also drawing interest from Arkansas, Miami and Mississippi State.

Spencer hails from New Albany (Ind.) High and was ranked as an offensive lineman out of high school. The On3 Industry pegged him the No. 38 interior offensive line prospect in the country and No. 6 prospect in the Hoosier State. He chose the Cardinals over Kentucky among others.

Spencer had four tackles this past fall for Louisville.
